So lately I’ve been trying to live a more simpler rewarding life. This mostly consists of getting rid of materialistic items that I have lying around the apartment that take up space, cleaning up around the apartment, and doing things that will make me stronger and wiser.
Wet Shave essentialsOne of the things that I recently got interested in was wet shaving. Wet shaving, for those of you who don’t know, is shaving like they did in the old days. Not with some crazy electric shave or with some cartridge razor that has 5 blades and vibrates like well.. you know. I’m talking about a man walking into his bathroom, lathering up his face with a badger brush, and then shaving with either a double edge safety razor or straight razor.
Now I’m a sucker for old fashion things. My freshman year in college I had this brief retro phase where I bought a retro style toaster and an ice crusher from the 60’s. I have no idea why I even bought that since I didn’t drink back then… In any case, wet shaving seems (with a lack of a better expression) hella cool.
Sure, it might seem like I doing the exact opposite of being simple. I’m going from a quick and easy electric shave to a three step process, adding possibly another 15 minutes to my shave. But in actuality, shaving was a ritual for man in the morning. It was his way to pamper himself and make himself feel good. 4 out of 5 mornings I feel like I don’t even have time to shave and I don’t. I get to work and my beard is all stubbly and I can’t help but think that I would look at least a little better if I shaved.
Is it conceited? Maybe. But a man really ought to care on how they look. I know I feel better when I look sharp, and what better way to look sharp then how our forefathers did?
I’m going to be ordering my shaving material this week and I’ll let you know how it goes.
